The federal government in their last budget have ceased funding for the four year old healthy kids check. This means that it will no longer be a funded service under the Medicare Health Assessment items. These changes came into effect as of November 2015. The healthy kids check, which was introduced in 2008, includes assessments of a child’s height, weight, hearing, eye sight, oral health, toilet habits and known or suspected allergies. General height and weight checks will still be performed at immunisation appointments. Patients are encouraged to consult with their GP for any particular concerns and other general care issues.
