Skin Check Clinic
The Importance of Skin Checks
While there is no national screening program for skin cancer, skin checks are an important source of early detection. Australia experiences some of the highest levels of ultra-violet radiation in the world, primarily because we are close to the equator and have weather conditions that permit many blue-sky days. It is therefore no surprise that skin cancer (combined melanoma and non-melanoma) is the most common type of cancer in Australia. Skin cancer causes more Australian deaths than transport accidents, and every year Australian GPs conduct over a million patient consultations for skin cancer.
What to Expect During Your Consult
A skin check at our dedicated skin cancer clinic is generally completed in a fifteen-minute session and is a simple, full body check for skin cancer. Doctors have on-site, specialised equipment that they use for skin checks and are equipped to undertake photographs for monitoring, biopsies, excisions, and use of cryotherapy or diathermy if required. The majority of skin cancers are able to be handled by us but we may refer to a specialist for their input if the case is complex or at the patients request.
Private (Non-Concession) – Standard Consultation: $80.00 (Medicare rebate $41.40)
Pensioner / Concession – Standard Consultation will be bulk billed to Medicare

Our Family Practice in Hope Valley is located at 1290 Grand Junction Road. The practice is beautifully centred within an old Heritage listed church upon which we have only recently completed a major refurbishment to ensure the provision of state of the art facilities for the delivery of high quality Skin Check services to our patients. While there is no national screening program for skin cancer, skin checks are an important source of early detection. For high-risk individuals, they are especially important – this includes those with a fair complexion, freckles and red hair, those with high UV exposure or sunburn as a child, anyone with a previous melanoma or non-melanoma skin cancer, or melanoma in a first degree relative. Call today on (08) 8396 4000 and one of our friendly receptionists will be able to help in answering any health related queries you may have.
