Knee Pain

Patella Tendinopathy

Patella Tendinopathy, or patella tendonitis, is a common overuse injury affecting the knee. This results in chronic pain and tenderness around the knee joint. It is a common injury in anyone that plays sport which involves frequent jumping such as basketball, netball or volleyball.

The patella tendon is a very important ligament tendon. It attaches the kneecap to the tibia, or shin bone. When we overuse this ligament tendon, it may result in small tears and some swelling. If left alone it can worsen with time and continued use.

This will present as pain when starting any exercise or training and will occur immediately after ceasing that activity. It may even progress far enough to interfere with normal activities of daily living such as standing up from a chair or climbing stairs.

Here at Pro Health Care, we can assist anyone with any form of knee pain. Our Physiotherapists and Podiatrists are highly trained practitioners. They can provide a comprehensive knee and lower limb assessment to determine the cause of your knee pain and how best to treat it.

These treatment options may include a strength and conditioning program, along with the use of custom foot orthotics and appropriate footwear.

A strengthening program will aim to build strength in the muscles that surround the knee joint and help it move. Our Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists are always happy to assist when it comes to knee pain of any sort.

Our Podiatrists take the utmost care and consideration when prescribing the ideal orthotic for your feet. They will also advise on the most suitable footwear for your chosen activity. We make our custom foot orthotics all in house to aid in redistributing the forces which contribute to overuse of the knee joint. With a wide range of different materials and options to choose from we can help come up with the perfect fit for you.

Book an appointment to see one of our Podiatrist‘s today to help put you on the right path to recovery.
