Root Canal Therapy in Adelaide at Pro Dental SA
Due to decay or trauma, a tooth’s nerve (pulp) can die and become infected, leading to pain. The only way to save and keep such a tooth is through root canal therapy.
What is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is the process of removing the tooth’s pulp, cleaning all the infected tissue in the root canal. This is done using tiny files until all traces of infected tissue are gone. Medication is normally left in the pulp chamber for a few weeks to eliminate all bacteria.
During the final visit, provided all bacteria are eliminated, the tooth is sealed with a pink substance called gutta-percha, which prevents bacteria from getting into the root canal of the tooth again.
Our dentists may advise that your root-filled tooth would benefit from being crowned to protect the remaining structure, and to restore function and aesthetics to the tooth. If so, we will always provide an estimate for the cost of treatment.
This highly technical and specialised area of dentistry can take up to three visits to complete.
