What is a Trigger Point?
Trigger Points are defined as extremely sensitive areas in skeletal muscle that can be felt as a tight band or ‘knot’. This band will commonly give rise to referred pain if firm pressure is applied.
What is Trigger Point Therapy?
At Pro Remedial SA, our massage therapists are trained in the application of Neuromuscular Therapy or Trigger Point Therapy. This involves applying intermittent pressure to each of the identified trigger points, until the associated referred pain diminishes. The release of tension is effective in relieving pain and increasing mobility.
Trigger points can be the cause of pain, but may also suggest the presence of associated dysfunction or pathology. At Pro Remedial SA, our massage therapists will take the time to assess for associated dysfunctions and where necessary, engage the patient in the appropriate course of action to remedy this dysfunction, including referral to our team of Multi-disciplinary health professionals where necessary.
