At Pro Health Care, our doctors place an emphasis on the prevention of illness and recommend regular health checks where applicable.
Specifically, our doctors undertake a range of screening tests for men that will check blood pressure, cholesterol and blood-glucose levels, along with a skin check.
Dr Chris Teh, a Clinical Director at Pro Health Care Hope Valley, explains.
“Men have typically been known to neglect their health and develop a stereotypical attitude of ‘she’ll be right’,” he says.
“However, it’s a good idea for all individuals to see their doctor for a regular health check even if they are currently feeling fit and healthy.”
Pro Health Care is a group of multi-disciplinary clinics providing a comprehensive approach to health and well-being under one roof. Its holistic approach includes general medical care, physiotherapy, podiatry, psychology, nutrition and dietetics, Pilates and more.
“Our practitioners have an emphasis on the prevention of disease as one of our primary mission statements and it is a message that we endeavour to promote to all our patients,” says Dr Teh.
With a long involvement in the fields of chronic disease management and mental health, Dr Teh has identified several specific issues relating to men’s health.
“Males often struggle to communicate their feelings and can battle anxiety or depression in isolation,” he says. “As a GP, I find that my patients are more likely to disclose these feelings in a consultation and we can arrange to seek help or put in a place a management plan specific for the situation.”
Prostate and testicular cancer is another area of concern.
“The need to inform men about prostate and testicular cancer is increasingly important,” Dr Teh says. “Each year almost 3300 Australian men die from prostate and/or testicular cancer and more than 21,000 new cases are diagnosed. With a higher risk among older men, the number of cases will grow as the population ages.
“Where there is a family history of prostate or testicular cancer screening tests can ensure early detection and management.”
You will require a double appointment for a Men’s Health Check so please advise reception staff upon booking or book online at any of our locations.
